J.K. Rowling's wizard magically reappears at Clearview's Ziegfeld Theater

While waiting for the delayed release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, another chance to see the previous five films are again being shown at the Ziegfeld Theater on 54th Street in Manhattan.

The Ziegfeld Theater, one of the few remaining single screen cinemas, provides a magically ornate and old-fashioned movie-going experience from yesteryear, and it is a perfect presentation place for the theatrical Potter movies, which are so seemingly suited to the festive season!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Showing: December 19, 20, 21, 22, 23

Harry Potter is an orphaned boy, who lives with his nasty aunt, uncle, and cousin in suburban England. However, when he learns of his magical powers, receiving an invitation to the finest witchcraft and wizardry school, Hogwarts, Harry’s fortunes seem to improve. He forms bonds of friendship with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and

throughout his first year, he learns more about his parents and their villainous murderer, Lord Voldemort. When the school comes under threat, it is left to the three friends to solve the mystery of the menacing force and free the school of the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

It is Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, but things get off to a rocky start due to Ron and Harry missing their train, only to be seen traveling to school in the flying car of the Weasley family. Soon suspicious occurrences begin to mount, and things go from bad to worse, until the life of Ron’s younger sister Ginny is endangered in the unsealed Chamber of Secrets, leading Ron and Harry to rush to her rescue despite various obstacles.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Showing: December 19, 20, 21, 24

Sirius Black has escaped from the high-security prison of Azkaban, and the staff of Hogwarts is getting worried. When Harry learns that Sirius is not only his godfather, but supposedly also partly responsible for his parents’ deaths, Harry experiences a mix of emotions, until he learns that not everything as it seems. It is soon left to Harry, Hermione, and “time” to salvage the school and certain individuals.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Showing: December 19, 20, 21, 23, 24

The Triwizard Tournament is being held at Hogwarts, and when Harry’s name is mistakenly entered, he is put through a series of risky tasks. A squabble with Ron and a scramble for dates to a winter dance act as distractions from other concerns, until the final task of the tournament brings about death and the return of the evil Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Showing: December 19, 20, 21, 23

The world of witches and wizards doubt that Voldemort has returned, and the ministry begins to interfere with the daily running of Hogwarts, causing a selection of students to rebel. Under threat, some of the students of Hogwarts begin to train themselves in spells and methods of protection, until a handful of Hogwartians assist the good forces of the Order of the Phoenix in a battle against the gathering army of Voldemort.

Recurring cast of these lavish film adventures include young stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. They are joined by veteran actors such as Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman, and a rotation of British bright lights including Kenneth Branagh, Miranda Richardson, Emma Thompson, Imelda Staunton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes.
