Harry Potter Chapter Six Half Entertains
The Most Recent Magical Adventure At Hogwarts Lacks Panache
Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, along with an ever-growing crew of supporters, have come to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their sixth year of training. This year is a little different, however.
Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry, Year Six
Hogwarts faculty has undergone some serious retooling and the dark arts position has once again be re-staffed, only this time from in house. Severus Snape has finally achieved his goal of obtaining the cursed position but has left a vacancy at the potion master’s filling.
Headmaster Albus Dumbledore brings Harry along on a trip to enlist the aid of an old friend named Horus Slughorn to the position of potions master to replace Snape. A friend Dumbledore suspects holds the key to Dark Lord Voldemort’s evil powers. Slughorn was one of Tom Riddole’s professors during his tutelage at Hogwarts.
Dumbledore has many of Slughorn’s memories but the one he suspects to hold the key to unlocking Voldemort’s secret has been tampered with, and by the very man whose memory it is.
Horace Slughorn is reluctant to revisit the past but he has a weakness according to Dumbledore, he likes to ‘collect’ students. Slughorn has a prized mantle that displays pictures of all the best and brightest young wizards and witches that he has taught throughout the years. Dumbledore uses this desire to teach the best with harry as bait to entice the ex-potions master back to the school.
Harry is put in charge of retrieving the unmolested memory from Slughorn and finding out the truth about Voldemort. Once the truth is known the extent of Voldemort's desire to dominate as Dark Lord becomes all too real.
Harry Potter Is A Seven On The Richter Scale (Out Of Ten)
Although the movie is a bit slow at times with many redundant scenes and themes from the previous years, it does provide some momentum heading into the final chapter. The darkness of the series continues to grow as well leading up to what will be the eventual showdown between good and evil. Harry begins to realize it’s up to him to square off against Lord Voldemort.
Cast Of Harry Potter
The regular cast members of the films all execute their characters well, much as expected with a good core of youth and a stellar supporting cast of adults. Jim Broadbent does an amazing job as Professor Horace Slughorn. He portrays the character with both comedy and sadness which supports the characters troubled past at Hogwarts.
Broadbent deserves a round of applause for his contribution to the film which is arguably the best performance of this chapter. Ralph Fiennes sat this movie out as Voldemort.
The movie is worth the watch. It doesn’t dazzle or excite the way some of the previous films have but that is due largely to the increase in adult content. It is certainly not the best of the series but definitely not the worst. Check it out.
