Cannon Movie Tales is a series of filmed dramatizations of popular fairy tales featuring new twists on classic stories.
Cannon Movie Tales are a set of live-action movies of popular fairy tales. Each movie offers a new spin on a classic fairy tale, and features elaborate sets and costumes and several original songs. Cannon Movie Tales got talented actors to dramatize these fairy tales, including Christopher Walken as the singing and dancing Puss in Boots and Diana Rigg as Snow White’s evil stepmother. Cannon Movie Tales are fun and entertaining fairy tale films for the whole family. The Frog Prince (1986) Starring Aileen Quinn (Princess Zora), Helen Hunt (Henrietta), John Paragon (Frog Prince), Clive Revill (King William) When King William’s brother died, he became guardian to his nieces Zora and Henrietta, knowing that only one of them was the true princess. When Zora becomes friends with an enchanted frog, she must keep her promise to him in order to break the spell and prove who is the real princess. Rumpelstiltskin (1987) Starring Amy Irving (Katie), Billy Barty (Rumpelstiltskin), John Moulder-Brown (Prince Henry), Clive Revill (King Mezzer), Priscilla Pointer (Queen Grizelda) When a greedy king hears the foolish miller boast that his daughter can spin straw into gold, he demands that she spin three rooms full of straw or be killed. A mysterious man agrees to help Katie if she will give him her firstborn son. After she succeeds and marries the prince, the man reappears demanding his payment and Katie must discover his name to get out of her agreement. The Emperor’s New Clothes (1987) Starring Robert Morse (Tailor), Jason Carter (Tailor’s Nephew), Sid Caesar (Emperor), Lysette Anthony (Princess Gilda), Clive Revill (Prime Minister) The vain Emperor demands a magnificent set of new clothes for his daughter’s wedding. He hires a new tailor and his nephew, and the two set to work tricking the Emperor into thinking that they are making a magical cloth that is invisible to anyone who is stupid. The Princess sees through their trick, however, but has fallen in love with the tailor’s nephew and demands that they help her escape her arranged marriage. Beauty and the Beast (1987) Starring Rebecca De Mornay (Beauty), John Savage (Beast), Yossi Graber (Father) When a ruined merchant tries to pick a single rose to take back to his daughter, the Beast who owns the garden demands that the merchant can only leave if he sends his daughter back in his place. Beauty insists on going and becomes the Beast’s prisoner, but she doesn’t know that the handsome prince she has fallen in love with in her dreams is really the Beast. Hansel and Gretel (1987) Starring Hugh Pollard (Hansel), Nicola Stapleton (Gretel), David Warner (Father), Emily Richard (Mother), Cloris Leachman (Witch) Children have been disappearing in the woods near the village. When their mother gets angry with them and sends Hansel and Gretel into the forest to pick berries, they are taken in by a seemingly nice woman who lives in a gingerbread house. When they realize she is a witch, the siblings must destroy her magic to free the other children. Snow White (1987) Starring Diana Rigg (Evil Queen), Sarah Patterson (Snow White), Nicola Stapleton (Young Snow White), Billy Barty (Iddy) Diana Rigg stars as the evil queen who is jealous of the beauty of her stepdaughter Snow White. When the Queen tries to have her killed, Snow White flees to the forest where she lives for years with some kindly dwarves. When the Queen finds out Snow White is still alive, she tries to kill her with a tight corset, a poison comb, and finally a poison apple. Puss in Boots (1988) Starring Christopher Walken (Puss), Jason Connery (Corin), Carmela Marner (Princess Vera), Yossi Graber (King) When the miller dies, he leaves his son Corin his cat Puss. This magical cat turns into a man and cleverly helps his new master, convincing the king that his master is really the Marquis of Carabas. While Puss defeats the evil ogre that has been terrorizing the countryside, gaining his castle in the process, Corin wins the hand of the beautiful Princess Vera. Red Riding Hood (1989) Starring Amelia Shankley (Linet), Isabella Rosellini (Lady Jean), Craig T. Nelson (Godfrey/Percival), Rocco Sisto (Dagger) Linet’s evil uncle Godfrey sold his soul to possess Dagger the wolf-man, and uses this henchman to oppress the people. Linet’s grandmother makes her a magical red cape to protect her, but everyone is only freed once Linet’s father Percival comes home from the war and saves his family from his brother.
